Army Recruitment 2023 Eligibility Criteria


The Indian Army welcomes candidates who are:

  • Citizens of India
  • Subjects of Bhutan
  • Subjects of Nepal
  • Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement
  • Persons of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India

Candidates from categories (ii), (iii), (iv), and (v) above must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, with the exception of Gorkha subjects of Nepal, who do not require this certificate.

Army Recruitment 2023 Age Limit

Candidates must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years of age on the first day of the month when the course is scheduled to begin. In other words, candidates should not be born before July 2, 2004, and after July 1, 2007.

Army Recruitment 2023 Educational Qualification

To be eligible for Army Recruitment 2023, candidates must meet the following educational criteria:

  • Passed the 10+2 examination or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in PCM from recognized education boards.
  • Appeared in the JEE (Mains) 2023.

  • Candidates applying for this entry should not have been debarred from appearing in any examination by the UPSC.

The Indian Army is offering 90 provisional vacancies for Army Recruitment 2023, which may change based on training capacity and organizational requirements at the time.

Type of Commission

Upon successfully completing the four-year course, cadets will be granted a Permanent Commission in the Indian Army with the rank of Lieutenant.


The total training period is four years, divided into two phases:

  • Phase-I: Integrated Basic Military Training and Engineering Training for three years.
  • Phase-II: Integrated Basic Military Training and Engineering Training for one year.

Candidates will be awarded an engineering degree upon successfully completing four years of training.

Cost of Training

The cost of training is ₹13,940/- (as of 2021) and will be recovered from candidates withdrawing for personal reasons during their stay at Cadet Training Wings.

The Indian Army offers a structured promotion criteria and salary structure for its officers. Promotion and salary levels are based on experience and rank.
